Intuitive Eating and Behaviour Change

The Behaviour Change Approach is a way of practise in which we focus on the whole health and behaviours of the individual rather than their weight. We know that great health can be achieved when focusing on instilling healthy behaviours rather than seeing weight loss as the primary goal. The goals and targets we strive for are aligned with the principles of Intuitive Eating and include building a healthy relationship with food and nutrition, connection to hunger and fullness,  joyful body movement and empowering self-esteem and positive body image. Similarly, we will focus on other key markers of health such as blood pressure, blood glucose and blood lipid levels as well as vitamin and mineral levels. 
Throw out all those dieting books and weight loss trends. There will be no restrictive diets, no calorie counting. Just simple dietary strategies aligned with your goals which are achievable well into the future.

A Positive Relationship with Food, Nutrition and Hunger

Building mindful or intuitive eating skills and working on dietary changes suited to your lifestyle you will develop a greater connection to your own body's hunger cues and relationship with the food you love. ​

Joyful Body Movement

Facilitating joyful movement and exercise that you enjoy doing. Going for a walk, going to the gym, yoga, pilates. How ever you enjoy moving your body.​

Alternative Measures of Health (BP, BGL, Lipid Profile, Hunger Scales)

There are multiple other ways to measure health. Working closely with your GP we will keep track of these to provide a measurable picture of how you are tracking.​

​Starting this journey will see you regain your love for food, master nutrition basics so you can challenge the food police, become more comfortable within your own body and build trust with your internal hunger and fullness cues. No tricks, no judgement. Just realistic evidence based nutrition strategies and a supportive environment to allow you to take control of your food choices, eating behaviours and navigate a culture fixated on weight loss. ALL foods can be a part of a healthy diet, there are no 'good' or 'bad' foods. Rather, we aim to flip the perspective to, there are more nutritious options. If weight loss is achieved as a side effect, it will be a slower process, however likely to stay off and at a weight your body desires. No longer will food have control over you. With a greater stillness inside and sense of relief you will look at food in a new light. This is not a program, there is no time frame for this to happen. Each session will be completed at an individualised pace you are happy with. Standing in your corner we understand how it feels. The uncertainty and frustration, sense of criticism and judgment. There will be good and bad days, and we get that, but with our door always open support is just a phone call away.

For all those who are struggling with weight loss and dieting, we are here to tell you, you are not alone. Your 'diet', 'food choices' or 'way of eating', what ever you choose to call it, should in essence be a realistic, sustainable and achievable task. There should be no anxiety around what, when or how much you're 'allowed' to eat. 

What do we know?

The evidence currently as it stands tells us that diets simply don't work.

We know that 95% of diets result in weight re-gain once the diet has ended, with 65% of people gaining more than they had lost during dieting. 

This can be frustrating and understandably hard to believe. Up until now we have been told that dieting is one of the most effective ways to lose weight. Ultimately they are not lying to you, we cannot deny they do just that. Diets are designed for short term rapid weight loss. However these are 95% of the time not realistic in the long term and put more pressure on an individual to stick to them, raising stress levels and lowering self esteem in the process.

Why this approach?

This approach is one of many. It is an approach that chooses to focus on healthy behaviours to improve health instead of weight loss as the desired outcome. This is by no means to discredit those who prefer to diet, calorie restrict and find success in weight loss. We are all for body autonomy and would never tell someone who is passionate about making positive change and losing weight that they would not succeed. However this weight focussed approach is not successful for most (95%) individuals long term, often causing more harm than good. Our aim is to provide everyone with evidence based information to allow them to make informed choices about their health.
